Every day may not be good...but there is something good in every day.

Burning Daylight

Here it is the first post of Burning Daylight - let the randomness begin!!
My Top 5 Favorite Western Books
1)      The Lonesome Gods by Louis L’Amour
2)      Son of a Wanted Man by Louis L’Amour
3)      The First Fast Draw by Louis L’Amour
Are you beginning to see a pattern??
4)      Silver Canyon by Louis L’Amour
5)      Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurty
I could go on with my favorite L’Amour titles.  I’ve read alot of his books - including the Sacketts.  I highly recommend them!
Here is a link - with a list of all of his titles!
I’m always on the lookout for new things to read.  Any suggestions?

Books my husband can't put down!

1) Life of Tom Horn: Government Scout and Interpreter written by Himself

2) The Nicest Fella - The Life of Ben Johnson: The World Champion Rodeo Cowboy who became an Oscar-winning movie star By Richard B. Jensen

My Top 6 Favorite Western Movies
1)      Quigley Down Under
2)      Cat Ballou
3)      Open Range
4)      The Searchers
5)      Conagher
6)  Tombstone
This was another hard list to come up with that's why there are 6 instead of 5! My blog, my rules! :)    I know I left a ton of great movies out. If my husband reads this post he will be upset that I left off– True Grit (John Wayne version) and Lonesome Dove.  While I agree both are great films there are some I just like a tad bit better….

I LOVE country music.  Not just any country music – classic country gold, traditional and red dirt really get me going! Don’t get me wrong I like the sound of a few new artists like Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, and Miranda Lambert.  But I am going to share with you a few of my favorite artists that are really not “mainstream” country.
1)      Waylon Jennings - I can remember sitting with my grandpa while he had a cassette of Waylon in the radio player.  Love me some Waylon.

2)      Randy Rogers Band – great band, great lyrics = great songs!

3)      Eli Young Band – to be honest I wasn't impressed by them at first- until my little sister made me listen to their entire first CD – now I’m a believer.

4)      Aaron Watson – just something about this guy’s voice and music.

5)      Ryan Bingham – he has got this great whisky burned voice!  So good - I melt!
(couldn’t make up my mind which song to feature J )

I could go on and on, but I’m going to stop there, but give a nod to George Strait, Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard, Jerry Reed, Sunny Sweeny, Patty Loveless, Old Crow Medicine Show and the Mavericks – couldn’t help myself!
What are your favorites?  Any recommendations to the list?

  1. Its nice to hear about another western novel fan, its seems like no one reads them anymore. The Silver Canyon is one of my favorites written by Louis L'Amour next to the Sackett series. This is a great blog. Hope to read more of it soon.
